Regenerative Tourism at Weird and Wonderful Wood
We are proud to embed regenerative tourism principles into the heart of our annual family event. Our goal is not only to minimise our environmental impact but to actively contribute to the wellbeing of our community, natural surroundings, and future generations.
Climate Action – Moving Toward Net Zero
We are committed to reducing our carbon footprint and supporting the UK’s journey to Net Zero by:
- Prioritising solar energy sources to power event infrastructure.
- Keeping additional site infrastructure to a minimum to avoid unnecessary transport emissions.
Circular Economy – Reducing Waste, Reusing Resources
We’re taking clear, practical steps to reduce waste and promote sustainable resource use:
- Operating a zero single-use plastic policy across the event.
- Partnering with local suppliers who use recyclable, compostable, or reusable packaging.
- Providing clearly marked waste and recycling stations, with volunteers to guide correct sorting.
- Using reclaimed, rented, or repurposed materials in our staging and decor.
- Avoiding overproduction by carefully managing ticketing, catering, and printed materials.
Biodiversity – Respecting and Restoring Nature
Protecting and enhancing the natural environment around us is a key priority:
- Hosting the event on well-managed green spaces, ensuring all activities avoid damage to plant life and wildlife habitats.
- Avoiding use of harmful chemicals or pesticides on lawns and event areas.
- Integrating nature-based workshops and activities that inspire connection to the natural world.
Place-Based Responsibility – Supporting People and Place
Our event is deeply rooted in respect for the local area and community:
- We prioritise local suppliers, artists, and food vendors, helping to support the regional economy.
- All programming is family-focused, inclusive, and low cost, ensuring accessibility for local residents.
- We support local groups such as the scouts who provide our car parking.
- Our team commits to leave-no-trace principles, ensuring the site is left in excellent condition post-event.
